Kito — Onyeka Nwelue

At dawn in Abuja, a gruesome discovery brings a disturbing case to light. Inspector Fáyọṣẹ Fáṣọlá and Detective Anyaja Edogbo arrive at a compromised crime scene, where rumours are already spreading.

At the centre of the story is Ozoza, a young man whose troubled childhood is marked by rejection, abuse and betrayal. After finding temporary refuge in a church parsonage, he experiences further exploitation. His life takes another turn when he encounters a group of men who prey on queer men through dating apps.

What begins as robbery soon develops into a disturbing series of killings. As each victim triggers painful memories, Ozoza’s actions become increasingly violent, symbolic and ritualistic.

Written in an episodic format, Kito is a dark, unsettling novel that explores trauma, exploitation, identity and the consequences of abuse. Onyeka Nwelue delivers a challenging story that confronts readers with the complexities of human behaviour and survival.
